
Rabbi Daniel Sackstein
Rabbi Daniel Sackstein, son of Errol and Julienne Sackstein, was born on 8 June 1971 in Johannesburg. He attended H.A. Jack Primary School and King David Victory Park High School before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wits University, majoring in Industrial Psychology and Social Anthropology.
In 1989, Rabbi Sackstein began his Torah studies at Ohr Sameach Yeshiva in Jerusalem, where he learned for two years. He then continued his studies at Yeshivas Ateres Yisrael under the renowned Rabbi Baruch Mordechai Ezrachi, from whom he received Semicha. He subsequently studied for a further five years at Midrash Shmuel under Rabbi Binyamin Moskowitz, receiving Semicha there as well.
In 1994, Rabbi Sackstein married Deanne in Johannesburg. The couple returned to Israel and lived in Telz Stone for seven years. After nine years of full-time learning, he was invited in 2002 to assist in establishing the Cape Town Community Kollel under Rabbi Jonathan Shippel, as part of the Ohr Somayach community in Sea Point.
In 2004, Rabbi Sackstein was appointed Rabbi of the Gardens Shul in Cape Town, and in 2007 he became Rabbi of the Camps Bay Shul, where he also served as Chairman of the Phyllis Jowell Jewish Day School.
The following year, Rabbi and Rebbetzin Sackstein returned to Johannesburg to lead the Sunny Road Shul, where they continue to serve with dedication. In 2013, Rabbi Sackstein received Semicha in Hilchos Niddah from the Johannesburg Beis Din.
Under their leadership, the community moved in 2018 to a new campus at 48 Sunny Road, undertaking an ambitious building project that included a beautiful new shul, a hall, landscaped gardens for Shabbat Kiddushim, a children’s play area with a jumping pillow and soccer field, and dedicated spaces for youth programs.

Rabbi and Rebbetzin Sackstein are the proud parents of Ashira Leah (married to Matan Abraham), Rafael (married to Batsheva, née Joffe), Ayala (married to Aharon Zagnoev), Yeshaya Moshe, and Naftali. They are blessed with a precious granddaughter and grandson.
Deanne Sackstein
Deanne Sackstein was born in 1974 in Johannesburg, South Africa. She wnt to King David Linksfield and later attended Neve Yerushalayim Seminary in Jerusalem.
Deanne studied beauty therapy and life coaching, equipping herself with skills to inspire and uplift others. In 1994, she married Danny, and together they lived in Israel for seven and a half years, where they welcomed their first three beautiful children. After Danny was headhunted, the family relocated to Cape Town, where they spent six years and were blessed with two more children.
The Sacksteins then moved to Johannesburg in 2008, where they began working with the Sunny Road community. As a Rebbetzin, Deanne is a wife, mother and a vibrant teacher of Women’s Torah, known for her engaging and humorous style.
With a real entrepreneurial spirit Deanne runs InStitches, a business that manufactures stylish tablecloths. She combines creativity with community spirit. Deeply involved in the lives of the women around her, Deanne brings warmth, energy, and dedication to everything she does.
